BF in Korea
intrigued with the title? read… -_-;;
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on Saturday (November 25) confirmed that a bird flu outbreak in Iksan, North Jeolla Province is of a highly virulent form of the H5N1 virus that could spread to humans. The ministry said tests by the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service revealed that the virus found at a poultry farm in Iksan last Wednesday “is a highly pathogenic type of H5N1 which is highly fatal and could affect humans as well.”
~ Got the info from Chosun newspaper, Monday, Nov. 27
that explains why dressed Chickens were sold 50% off last Sunday! eeew!
but there's more…
As of this moment, there are around 10,000 migratory birds coming from nearby Central Asia and Siberia. These birds usually arrive around late fall to early winter and they are still expecting around 60K birds by next month.. you think it's cool? think about the dirt they're causing.. they can't hang their laundries on their rooftop.. sa dami ng ibon na yan, there's a slim chance na di ka mapatakan ng blessings nila. To make it worse, mga uwak (crows) po ang mga migratory birds na ito. Sounds horrific at night! Mas malakas kaya ang tunog ng around 70,000 Crows versus Rivermaya band? hmmnnn it's a challenge worth watching so reserve your tickets now! BTT: I dont wanna spend Christmas hearing their frightening cries! These migratory birds found Ulsan as their new home for 7 years already… if I'm from Ulsan, will I be proud that our city is a safe home for Crows during winter?
I'm not trying to exaggerate things but there's a possibility that these birds are carriers of bird flu. Take note that the city has taken measures to prevent infectious diseases the birds may be carrying and started sampling their excrement in Ulju county on Wednesday. The city says it is extremely rare that humans come down with bird flu, and no bird flu has been found in crow excrement for the last two years.
In spite of the news, I dont feel bothered 'coz I know that Korean government is ready for situations like these and they always prioritize the safety of their residents. Nothing to worry.
be where my heart is…
Saturday, November 25, 2006I accidentally erased the text last night hehe..
The pic will speak for itself…
Other infos, i'll be spending 12 days of my 2 months vacation in phils.. almost half of it will be spent at panglao island, bohol - good chance to unwind from all the stress and boredom here in korea plus a good place to think things over..
i'll definitely find time to meet old friends like the usual chit-chat friends, newbies++, and my wave97a buds.. looking forward to seeing you all..
too young…
Thursday, November 23, 2006I asked my cousin to accompany my parents during their vacation here in Korea. Very vocal ako na si kulet ang fave cousin ko for obvious reasons: i grew up sa father side ko & he's our first first-cousin. Eldest kc saming magpipinsan is my sister, then me, then si kulet na. After several years, saka naman sumunod si jayson.
We grew up as close friends though we're very much different, nah, not really.. we both enjoy some vices. We had the same dream. Sabi nga ng mom nya, he wants to be where I am now but I dont know what happened.
Lucky him 'coz he grew up in a well-to-do family. Never namroblema financially kaya siguro natikman lahat ng layaw. Madaming changes ang nangyari. Mejo nagipit ang family nila especially when he went to College and his sister went to a private high school. Napabarkada… he became a delinquent student. I cannot blame him 'coz he lose his interest to study for several reasons like enjoying his barkada more than attending class, teachers will ask for cellfone load, flash drive, and even money as project. I didn't bother to confirm 'coz I believe my cousin. He tells me everything, be it wrong or right. My aunt always ask me na pangaralan sya until one time we found ourselves crying over the fone 'coz he got his gf pregnant at the age of 19. I gave him moral and financial support. If I can help others bakit hindi ang fave cousin ko?
did i do the right thing?
I was informed that he's finding job in phils. my aunt asked me if I can find a job here for my cous. though illegal sige I'll invite him as tourist then he can work here for few months. Yeah I'm guilty of doing it kasi last October 21, during his special bday, he had breakfast sa Pinas, lunch sa Hongkong, and dinner in Korea. He arrived here with my parents. Few days after, he started working with my friend.
I dont know what's the real problem. Is it the workplace 'coz he's always complaining or is it his attitude, or he's just homesick? First week of work absent kaagad sa last day. I even made the sacrifice na hatid-sundo sya sa work place 'coz he's not yet familiar with the place. The first weekend, he spent around 2 hours talking to his mom and wife while drinking & smoking… much worse, he's crying. I talked to him after. I asked him the problem & he told me very minimal problems. Bottom line is: he's just homesick. Lecheng homesick 'yan. I was able to live here on my own for morethan a year and I was able to survive. After few days naka recover sya, until the other day that he's complaining once again. Absent pag nagustuhan then uuwing nakainom. Gusto ko sanang sabihan but I dont want to add burden to him. Instead, iniintindi ko na lang and I'm letting him pour all his frustrations and concerns. Last night when I got home, my parents told me late nang umalis ng house.. few minutes later my friend is asking me about my cousin's whereabouts. Clueless, wala akong nasabi. We waited for him.. past midnight na nung dumating and as usual he's drunk.. may bitbit pang beer when he entered the house. I was furious last night but I controlled it kasi highblood na rin parents ko. For few weeks, ipinagtatanggol ko na lang sya sa parents ko. My father asked him if he wants to go back to phils. na. My parents always tell me that if he will continue with such behavior eh pauwiin na lang.
I invited him here to earn money on his own.. to help him mature.. to help him how to live.. for him to know what life is. For him to realize that he should live not just for himself. I want him to understand that he has great responsibilities now and it takes a great deal of discipline to be a better person than he is now.
Few hours ago, he handed me his passport and I'm decided to rebook his flight from January 3 to first week of December. Ayoko sanang umuwi sya but I cant bear to see him struggling due to immaturity. His concerns are not that important compared to his needs. He wants the situation and the people involved to adjust to his preferences instead of him abiding. He's still young for the situation… or maybe, I don't know how to help him.
i'll just wish him luck and let his experiences teach him what life is…
RIVERMAYA rocks Korea
Wednesday, November 22, 2006Finally, it just started from a wild idea.. during my vacation in Phils., Ms. Anne Tiangco (editor of People's Journal's group of publication) invited me for a kamustahan-thingie-gimmick after our first meeting in Pusan, Korea late last year. I cant exactly remember kung san kami pumunta, is it Laffline or Punchline, ewan basta comedy bar along Quezon Ave. I was with Bry and she's with her hubby and yun na nga, I opened the idea of producing a concert in Korea.
from wild idea to reality
the story behind
Bringing pinoy talents in Korea is not that easy. At first, we thought of bringing the singing champions pero champion din ang price. Anne thought of inviting Backroom talents like Eric Santos, Frenchi Dy & others pero ginto pa rin. Good thing, Anne is so so eager to make the idea into reality. Until we finally came up with Ara Mina & Jimmy Bondoc, ginto rin ang presyo but luckily, Ara is so kind kaya nabawasan ng konti ang price. With such, makaka move na kami. Ara again? I remembered sponsoring Ara concert before at the expense of my sister! The tickets were sold out but only few people remitted the money. Yeah, nadehado ako but sila ang accountable sa KANYA in due time =) feeling ko naman makokonsensya pa ang mga yun noh! Buti na lang mabait ate ko & pinaubaya na sa'kin ang perang 'di naibalik sa kanya.
BTT: On my part, I decided to go to Seoul to check for possible venues, gather contacts na tutulong sakin kasi solo ko lang. I'm not a member of any registered groups here in Korea. I chose not to be one. I was lucky enough to know Ate Precy, from the pinoy catholic community of Hwewadong, Seoul - the same org who sponsored Parokya-ni-Edgar Concert in Seoul early this year. Unfortunately, they are also planning to sponsor a concert featuring Piolo and Rica. I need the org para magprocess ng permits. I can't do it myself as private producer 'coz i need to have a registered business here. Permits should be requested by an NGO para mas mabilis. Also, I was informed that they sponsor concert but 100% of the proceeds will be given to them :( volunteer work ako? Hmmnnn.. we need plan B. Result: Anne almost had a heart attack! Me? nagastosan lang sa pagbyahe ng Seoul, good thing libre telebabad sa office.. bad bad bad.
In short, there's no way that we can bring Ara & Jimmy in Seoul. Plan B is to go to the next largest city - Busan. The crowd there likes band. Hence, we have to set aside Ara & Jimmy but we still want to invite them here but sa ibang loc nga lang, not Busan. Anne suggested Rivermaya kc may contact sya sa manager nito. Also, Rivermaya won in MTV Asia as 2006's Most Fave Artists so the chances of getting other crowds than pinoys are greater. Then yun na nga. Rivermaya.
but I had to say goodbye
But it didn't end there, I was constrained to do business here in Korea as clearly stipulated in my contract. Ang dami na naming naisacrifice for the plan, yet, nothing is accomplished kasi I cannot find any group who will help me with the permits. Thanks to Anna of Seoul and Ate Ning for giving me other contacts. I was able to talk to Hermie who's leading pinoy community in Ulsan, minutes away from Daegu & Busan, the third & second largest city respectively. Thanks God, excited sya sa project and yun na nga. She didn't waste any second. Nagparegister sya ng org, processed the permits, looked for sponsors, venue and everything in lieu of me. I became busy with other responsibilities related to my profession. Now, I'm doing my part to make it successful. Online advertising, blogging haha, reaching out to Korean clients thru my student assistants, and of course central source of tickets here in Daegu.
Hermie & Anne spelled magic to make this concert a reality. Kudos girls!
